A very interesting recent publication by Les Indes savantes is the book Voyage au coeur du roman-photo: Autobiographie, the autobiographical book by Hubert Serra.
Born in Paris in 1928, Serra discovers a passion and a talent for drawing while fighting in Indochina, where he starts drawing and writing articles for Caravelle, the weekly magazine of the French expeditionary force in Indochina. Once back in France, he becomes editor first of the monthly magazine Indochine Sud Est Asiatique and then for Cino Del Duca, the "emperor" of romance press.
It is during these years that he finds his true calling: to create photo novels. Throughout his life, he produces more than 700 photo novels with innovative themes and styles, 150 of which for the Belgian magazine Femmes d'Aujourd'hui. He is considered today one of the best creators of the genre.
